In Luke 21, after Yeshua (Jesus) speaks about various circumstances that will happen during the end of the age, He gives an interesting warning to saints who believe that they are prepared to meet Him: “But be on your guard, so that your hearts will not be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that this day will not come on you suddenly, like a trap” (Luke 21:34 NASB).
Originally, dissipation meant to disperse or scatter. For instance, the sun dissipates clouds and wind dissipates dust. Thoughts and desires can be scattered in an irregular way too. Therefore, dissipation can also be defined as a person’s soul becoming uncentered from God. Technically, it’s whatever takes our focus away from God or takes our minds from God is what dissipates us. We all get off-centered when our minds remove God from being the epicenter of our lives.
Dissipation in medical terms is the act of living a wasteful and dissolute life, especially drinking alcoholic beverages to an excess. It’s a self-indulgent life, including revelry, partying, and uncontrolled debauchery. Dissipation is much like getting a large inheritance and spending it on entertainment so that in a few years it is all spent with nothing of tangible value remaining. It’s akin to selfishly wasting your life on foolish, worldly, and even demonic pleasures.
Yeshua warns us in Luke 21:34 that dissipation causes a person to not be prepared to meet Him, whether at His Second Coming or when they die. It also reveals that a wasteful life that pursues a luxurious materialistic lifestyle leads believers astray. Giving into worldly desires, pursuing temporary earthly pleasures, and being consumed by anxieties causes everyone, including believers, to be caught unawares when the day of His judgment comes.
Today was one of those unexpected days of His righteous judgment. It is the day that comes “as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth” (Luke 21:35). The Lord our God is releasing from the Body of Christ and the Bride of Christ those who have not guarded their hearts and who have chosen to be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness, and the cares of this life. Heaviness is literally being shed from Christ’s Body. Know that God’s redemptive purpose is to correct every precious lost soul, so they can be prepared to meet Him face-to-face.
Today, to some measure, this Scripture has been fulfilled: “Then He spoke to them a parable: ‘Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. When they are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near. So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the Kingdom of God is near. Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing [dissipation], drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man’ ” (Luke 21:29-36).
May you and yours guard your hearts and be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass.
