The Seventh Seal acts as a trigger. The trigger is pulled when an angel takes a golden censer filled with coals of fire from the altar in heaven and throws it to earth:
“When He opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. 2 And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets. 3 Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. 4 And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand. 5 Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it to the earth. And there were noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake.” (Revelation 8:1-5).

When coals of fire go forth from the hand of the LORD and are scattered upon the earth, His judgments are executed, and we will know I AM that I AM:
“Then I looked and behold, in the expanse that was over the heads of the cherubim something like a sapphire throne, in appearance resembling a throne, appeared above them. And He spoke to the man clothed in linen and said, ‘Enter between the whirling wheels under the cherubim and fill your hands with coals of fire from between the cherubim and scatter them over the city” (Ezekiel 10:1-2).
“O LORD, I have heard thy speech and was afraid: O LORD, revive they work in the midst of the years, … in wrath remember mercy. And His brightness was as the light; He had horns coming out of His hand; and there was the hiding of His power. Before Him went the pestilence, and burning coals went forth at His feet. He stood, and measured the earth: He beheld, and drove asunder the nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills did bow: His ways are everlasting” (Habakkuk 3:2,4-6).
“Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because He was wroth. There went up a smoke out of His nostrils, and fire out of His mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it. He bowed the heavens also, and came down; and darkness was under His feet. And He rode upon a cherub and did fly: and He was seen upon the wings of the wind” (2 Samuel 22:8-11).
Be encouraged for within the fires of discipline/judgment are the embers of restoration. This is pictured in Scripture where coals of fire were both at Peter’s denial of Christ and his restoration (John 18:17-18; John 21:9).
Always remember that the coals of fire (fire from the altar) are His coals of love: “Set me as a seal upon your heart, as seal upon your arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coal of fire, which has a most vehement flame” (Song of Solomon 8:6).
