“I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps” (Psalms 40:1-2).
In Psalms 40:2, King David describes the conditions of his life as a horrible pit of miry clay, Miry clay is thick mud or a troublesome situation. Mire is wet spongy earth, like a marsh, a swamp, or a bog, as in bogged down. He was stuck. King David was hampered by the thick mud in His life that wouldn’t let him go. It halted his progress until his feet were set upon the Rock of Messiah Yeshua and our Heavenly Father.
Much of entertainment – movies, TV, social media, etc. – detains us from entering His Presence. In fact, they can be likened to a swamp that sticks us in their mud where we become unable to advance, grow, or increase. The Cambridge Dictionary reveals that to “get bogged down” is to be/become so involved in something that it is difficult to do anything else. Have you ever wasted time doom scrolling through your Facebook feed? Have you binged watched a TV series? Have you gotten into the habit of relaxing by watching a movie or two or three? There’s no throwing stones in this glass house. I have done all of them. I sometimes wonder how much time I have wasted. Don’t you? Let’s no longer let anything or anyone waste our time. Time is so very short. We need to be more intentional about how we spend our time.
I was recently led to repent for all distractions from God’s Kingdom. Now, I am endeavoring to run all my entertainment choices by the filter of the perfect will of the Father. Don’t forget about great grace in the journey when your heart is set on Him.
Add to this, the character of those who we are being entertained by and what they are involved with, and you come up with some very sticky situations in most cases, which unfortunately are also evil too many times. The worldly ways of entertainment have long been full of dens of snakes and covens of witches. Most, if not all, sell their soul for power, prestige, fame, and fortune. Is that what you want to invest in? Is that the goal for your life or for your kids? These are questions that we all need to ask ourselves.
Especially since it’s time for God Himself to clean up media and entertainment. We are already seeing it. God is judging movie stars, musicians, and talk show hosts. God is judging global ministries, megachurches, and entertainment in His church. The Lord God Almighty is destroying the façade of Hollywood, Silicon Valley, Broadway, and Megachurches. He is removing their masks to display to the whole world who and what He is judging.
It’s time for believers to repent (to turn), so that they can be freed up from the miry clay of entertainment.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners shall be converted to You” (Psalms 51:10-13).
