When you live a life of truth, lovingkindness and mercy comes along for the ride. “Mercy, lovingkindness and truth have met together” (Psalms 85:10).
God’s steadfast truth and love perpetually preserves us: “I have not concealed Your righteousness within my heart; I have proclaimed Your faithfulness and Your salvation. I have not hid away Your steadfast love and truth from the great assembly, Withhold not Your tender mercy from me, O Lord; let Your loving-kindness and Your truth continually preserve me!” (Psalms 40:10-11 AMP).
God cuts off evil enemies in His truth, delivering His people out of all trouble: “He will repay my enemies for their evil. Cut them off in Your truth” (Psalms 54:5).
Mercy, lovingkindness, and truth joins together in the Lord. They are an essential part of the Lord at all times. They interact for the best outcome, because the Lord is faithful to keep those after God’s own heart: “My faithfulness and My mercy and loving kindness shall be with him” (Psalms 89:24).
The Hebrew word for “faithfulness: in Psalms 89:24 is H530 'ĕmûnâ (אֱמוּנָה), which literally means firmness. It can also be translated as “truth.” Just as the Davidic Throne is built up forever, so is mercy and lovingkindness while God’s everlasting and consistent truth has been established in the heavens: “For I have said, Mercy and lovingkindness shall be built up forever; Your faithfulness (truth) will You establish in the very heavens [unchangeable and perpetual]. [You have said] I have made a covenant with My chosen one, I have sworn to David My servant, Your Seed I will establish forever, and I will build up Your throne for all generations. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!” (Psalms 89:2-4 AMP).
Mercy, lovingkindness, and truth go before God’s face (Psa. 89:14). “But You, O Lord are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in mercy and lovingkindness and truth” (Psalms 86:15 AMP). Perhaps this is why Psalms 86:15 reflects the moment when Moses was put in the cleft of the rock and God’s glory passed by: “Now the Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, ‘The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.” (Exodus 34:5-7).
Behold, God’s truth reaches to the clouds (Psa. 57:10)!
