MAKE A SANCTUARY

Sukkot is usually translated as “Tabernacles,” or the festival of “Booths.” It is a God-given Biblical Festival that occurs from Tishri 15 to 21 (Lev. 23:34). There is a quick shift from the high holy day of repentance and judgment to rejoicing and celebration, for which God’s people are commanded to build a hut (sukkah – singular; sukkot – plural) and make it their home for seven days. These temporary dwellings that are built in our day during Sukkot are to remind God’s people of the tents that the Israelites lived in after they left Egypt on their way to the Promised Land (Lev. 23:42).

The five-day period between the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) and the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot) was the same amount of time that marked the beginning of construction of God’s sanctuary in the wilderness (Exo. 25:8-9). The Hebrew word for “tabernacle” is mishkan.

After the sin of the Golden Calf, Moses ascended Mount Sinai again for 40 days and nights to receive the second ketubah – marriage contract – for Israel. Moses descended on Yom Kippur that year, carrying the second set of the Ten Commandments, which was a sign of God’s forgiveness for the sin of the Golden Calf as well as a symbol of binding covenant between God and Israel (Exo. 24:12-18; Exo. 34:1-2,27-28). The next day Moses relayed God’s instructions for building the mishkan – a dwelling place. The material needed for this portable dwelling place was collected during the days before Sukkot. After they collected the supplies, the work to build the Wilderness Tabernacle began immediately (Exo. 35-36:1-7).

Why was the mishkan built? The Bible says, “Let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them” (Exodus 25:8). God still wanted to establish a relationship between Him and His people, even after they worshiped demonic “gods” through a Golden Calf. Therefore, He instructed Israel to build Him the mishkan, the tabernacle in the wilderness, so He could dwell amidst His people.

If you and I are faithful to build, perfect, and dwell in our temporary sanctuaries for seven days, an astounding quantum leap awaits after the prophetic sixth day, as illustrated on the Mount of Transfiguration. “Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light” (Matthew 17:1-2). Notice how Yeshua only took His closest inner circle: Peter, James, and John, which is a picture of His Most Faithful Bride.

Also notice how when they saw Moses and Elijah talking with Yeshua, impulsive Peter thought He understood what was going on and suggested to Yeshua that they build three tabernacles: one for Yeshua, one for Moses, and one for Elijah (Matt. 17:3-4). Peter had made the connection between Yeshua’s Transfiguration and the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot). Yeshua didn’t correct Peter’s assumption. Father God just seamlessly made a slight correction while Peter was still talking. A bright cloud overshadowed them while Peter was still speaking, and Father God voiced from the cloud, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” (Matthew 17:5). One of the things that Abba Father was showing us is that earthly physical tabernacles will not be required when the sons of men become like unto the sons of God (Heb. 7:3). These are those who have endeavored to become just like Yeshua. God Himself will make the call when His faithful people are ready to be transfigured into Light Beings, which is a permanent dwelling place for God where they are perpetually priests of the Most High God, being manifestly one with the High Priest made after the Righteous Order of Melchizedek - Messiah Yeshua.

This is part of what God’s people are rehearsing during Sukkot until it becomes a reality in their own lives.

Tomorrow at sundown – 16 October 2024 – The Feast of Tabernacles begins (on the Hallel Calendar)! May you and yours be blessed to be found dwelling with Him, as His Faithful Bride.

Give em heaven!!!
