The intention of those who worshiped the Golden Calf was proclaimed by Moses’ brother Aaron: “Tomorrow is a feast to the Lord” (Exo. 32:5). Aaron had even done his due diligence to build God’s Altar to His specifications (Exo. 20:24). Yet, their Golden Calf festivities were not only offensive to Him, but they also invoked His judgement. God’s people believed that they had genuinely devoted themselves to worship YHVH, but God is neither fooled, nor mocked. The Lord saw into the heart of the matter (Psa. 44:20-21).
Aaron and company intended to worship the One True God in and through this golden image; however, God knew that Aaron had borrowed this idolatrous image of the yearling bull from the Egyptian way of worship. The Apis bull was what Aaron had in mind when he tried to epitomize God’s divinity as a Golden Calf (Exod. 32:4). The late Reverend Alexander Hislop reveals that Apis is simply another name for Saturn of Saturnalia fame. It was literally the worship of Saturn. The Roman Saturnalia is the immediate predecessor of our modern-day Christmas Season before it was institutionalized by the Catholic Church. The immediate predecessor of our modern-day Christmas Day was the Roman elites’ worship of Mithra’s Winter Solstice Festival held on Dec. 25th. Mithra was the Persian version of the Babylonian sun god – Tammuz or Nimrod (take your pick). December 25th was the ancient winter solstice before the Roman shift in time. It was the day throughout antiquity when all pagan-demonic sun gods’ birthdays were celebrated.
Amazing as it may seem, our modern-day Christmas celebration is literally made in the same image as the original Golden Calf fabricated by Aaron at Sinai. Yeshua didn’t celebrate Christmas. Messiah Yeshua celebrated the overthrow of Christmas (if you know the history of the Feast of Dedication), which many call Hanukkah today. Refer to John 10:22-23. Why can’t we just do what Jesus did?
