“Righteous are You, O Lord, and upright are Your judgments. Your testimonies, which You have commanded, are righteous and very faithful. My zeal has consumed me, because my enemies have forgotten Your words. Your word is very pure; therefore Your servant loves it. I am small and despised, yet I do not forget Your precepts. Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and Your law is truth. Trouble and anguish have overtaken me, yet Your commandments are my delights. The righteousness of Your testimonies is everlasting; Give me understanding, and I shall live” (Psalms 119:137-144 NKJV).
TSADE, TSADDE, TZASI, or TSADIK (צ) is the eighteenth letter of the Hebrew Alef-Bet. It has the numerical value of 90. TSADIK (צ)’s ancient Hebrew pictograph is a fishhook. TSADIK (צ) symbolizes both the righteousness of God and devout human beings. The structure of the TSADIK living letter is formed from the combination of a bent NUN (נ) and a VAV (ו). NUN represents a humble and faithful servant bent in submission to the Crown VAV – the One who connects heaven and earth through His sacrifice on the Cross. Through this fundamental understanding of the shape of the TSADIK letter, we see that a righteous person is a faithful servant with their arms raised in humility before the LORD, which symbolizes a tzaddik’s extreme humble readiness to submit to the Divine. As such, many Hebrew Sages say that the Hebrew Living Letter ™ TSADIK represent the tzaddikim – the righteous ones who are said to be the foundation of the earth. “When the storm passes through, the wicked are swept away, but the righteous are an everlasting foundation” (Proverbs 10:25).
God alone is perfectly righteous: “The Righteous and Upright One” (Deuteronomy 32:4). True righteousness can only exist in God and it is an integral part of Him. His righteousness is the only true foundation of the universe: “The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; The world and all its fullness, You have founded them. … Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; mercy and truth go before Your face” (Psalms 89:11,14 NKJV). “The Lord reigns; Let the earth rejoice; Let the multitude of isles be glad! Clouds and darkness surround Him; Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne” (Psalms 97:1-2 NKJV).
A righteous person (tzaddik) illuminates the world by bringing God’s Dwelling Presence – His Shekinah – down to dwell among men. A tzaddik reflects God’s divine image (b’tzselem elohim). The Hebrew letter TSADIK (צ) begins the word “tzelem,” which is the divine image that God created man in their own image: “Then God said, “ ‘Let Us make man in Our image [tzelem], according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them” (Genesis 1:26-27 NKJV).
The Hebrew word tzelem is derived from tzel, which means “shadow.” Colossians 2:17 speaks of Biblical practices connected to both time and space (i.e., our physical existence), “which are a shadow of things to come; but the BODY IS OF CHRIST” (Colossians 2: 17 KJV). One of the interpretations of a “shadow of things to come” is the manifestation of Christ’s Body coming into its fullness as a perfect One New Man in Christ (Ephesians 2:15; Ephesians 4:13). This is the Metatron form of the Righteous Messiah with the fully mature Head of Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ) connected to the fully mature members of His Body.
On the third day of Creation, God produced all forms of vegetation, including fruit bearing trees: “Then God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit according to their kind with seed in them”; and it was so. The earth produced vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their kind, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, according to their kind; and God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, a third day” (Genesis 1:11-13 NKJV). The Hebrew word for “tree” is eitz, which is equivalent to 160. The tzelem divine image in which man was created on the sixth day of Creation also equals 160. With this in mind, let us meditate upon the number 160 breaks down to “7” (1 + 6 = 7), which is the number for perfection. “Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to PERFECTION” (Hebrews 6:1 NKJV). “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of PERFECTION. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful: (Colossians 3:12-14 NKJV).
The Hebrews call the palm tree the “king of trees” and say that the tsaddik will flower like a date palm: “The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon” (Psalms 92:12 KJV).
A righteous person – a tzaddik – applies to human beings who emulate God’s righteousness by conducting themselves with integrity, truth, and justice. “Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous” (1 John 3:7 NKJV). The process of being a tzaddik is never-ending. Righteous people continually grow their Kingdom of God within until they become exactly like Yeshua.
