The most important point about the Hebrew Living Letters™ (HLL) is that they flow from the essential life-giving essence of Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ), because they are inherent in Him, birthed from Him and continually sustained by Him: “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist” (Colossians 1:15-17 NKJV).
GIMEL (ג) is the third letter of the Hebrew Living Letter Alef-Bet; and therefore, has the numerical value of 3. Its pictograph is a camel, which symbolizes: [1] a camel or a beast, [2] to lift up, [3] provision, [4] kindness, or [5] self will or pride (like an obstinate camel).
According to The Wisdom in the Hebrew Alphabet, Michael L. Munk shares that “the camel is equipped physically to endure tremendous stress, which enables it to help travelers survive the perils of the desert. Thus, the camel is a gomel chessed, a performer of kindness.” He goes on to share that “the essence of chessed is rooted in God – as it is written – ‘All paths of HASHEM are kindness and truth’ (Psalms 25:10). One of my favorite lines of Michael Munk is: “Kindness not only elevates people to heavenly levels; it even leaves its mark upon the place where it is performed.”
I love how the Word of God – Messiah Yeshua – is continually showing lovingkindness. Please notice how Scripture pairs lovingkindness with mercy, righteousness, and truth. For it is written:
· “Show Your marvelous LOVINGKINDNESS by Your right hand, O You who save those who trust in You From those who rise up against the” (Psalms 17:7 NKJV).
· “Remember, O Lord, Your tender mercies and Your LOVINGKINDNESSes, For they are from of old” (Psalms 25:6 NKJV).
· “How precious is Your LOVINGKINDNESS, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings… Oh, continue Your LOVINGKINDNESS to those who know You, And Your righteousness to the upright in heart” (Psalms 36:7,10 NKJV).
· “I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your LOVINGKINDNESS and Your truth From the great assembly. Do not withhold Your tender mercies from me, O Lord; Let Your LOVINGKINDNESS and Your truth continually preserve me” (Psalms 40:10-11 NKJV).
· “Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your LOVINGKINDNESS; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions” (Psalms 51:1 NKJV).
Due to Gimel (ג) being 3, it is associated with the simplest solid figure in space – a cube. Two points or two straight lines cannot enclose a space; therefore, three is needed to form a solid figure that has height, length, and width. According to E.W. Bullinger’s book Number in Scripture, the number three stands for that which is solid, real, substantial, complete, and entire. It is the divine perfection: of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Seraphim cry, "Holy, Holy, Holy" three times (Isaiah 6:3). The fullness of the Godhead is visible in Christ and communicated by the Holy Spirit (Colossians 2:9). Therefore, divine fullness signifies the Holy Spirit taking the things of Christ and making them experientially real. It is by the Holy Spirit we realize spiritual things and go beyond the surface. ALEF (1) and BET (2) equals GIMEL (3) suggests that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father (ALEF) and the Son (BET). The role of our Helper – the Holy Spirit – convicts us of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8). Yeshua tells us that the Holy Spirit will “take what is mine and declare it to you” (John 16:14) bringing true aid to the poor trapped behind the door.
Hebrew Sages say that GIMEL symbolizes a rich man running after a poor man – the DALET – to give him charity (tzedakah) – perform kindness. The word “gimel” is derived from the word “gemul,” which in Hebrew means both the giving of reward as well as the giving of punishment. In God’s Word, both reward and punishment have the same ultimate aim - the rectification of a man’s soul to receive God’s light and love to the fullest extent and to made into the exact same image as Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ).
The Hebrew word for “redeem” is ga-al. In contrast to pride, the Hebrew Word Picture for ga-al tells us that redemption comes when you lift up God. “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,” (John 3:14 NKJV). “Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things” (John 8:28 NKJV). “Therefore say to the children of Israel: ‘I am the Lord; I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians [i.e., the world], I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will REDEEM you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments” (Exodus 6:6 NKJV).
May you and I lift up our eyes to be laser focused on the Author and Perfecter of our faith. “When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only” (Matthew 17:8 NKJV).
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin. And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: ‘My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.’ If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it” (Hebrews 12:1-11 NKJV).
Messiah Yeshua is the Redeemer of all mankind (John 4:42). He is the One who runs forth bearing charity (i.e., lovingkindness) for the poor ones who stand behind the door (Rev. 3:20). He is the Door (John 10:9). He is also the Judge standing at the door (James 5:9). The pictograph for the Hebrew word for “judge” communicates that the Judge is the Door of Life; therefore, the purpose of any judgment or chastisement is so that His love and light may come to the forefront.
