What many a believer considers godly concern can possibly be ungodly fear.
Recently, I was convicted by God about how I have sometimes prayed for my family. The Lord showed me due to “my concern” for my loved ones about the demonic influence of things like – video games, role-playing games, movies, books, relationships, etc. – I would pray my desire (which I assumed was the Lord’s desire too). Please insert your own concerns here. Please note that what I am sharing especially applies to grown children and spouses.
Due to this concern, God has shown me that many times I have been praying manipulative and controlling prayers that violate another person’s free will. Talk about conviction. My concern (heavy on the word “my”) caused me (and most of the Body of Christ by the way) to pray witchcraft prayers. Many moons ago I learned that witchcraft is about control and manipulation for the purpose of intimidation. Intimidation can simply be about getting your own way. I truly didn’t see that I was trying to get my own way. It’s hard to be objective when there seems to be so much at stake. Truly open the eyes of our heart, Lord.
The Lord first showed me that praying for my thirty-something son to get a job close to home was not in accordance with my precious son’s God-given purpose and destiny. Talk about humbling. I promptly repented for all the prayers that have violated my son’s free will and have gone against his purpose and destiny. I have been contemplating: How much have I gotten in the way for God having His way? Please forgive me, Lord.
Then, God led me to look at my concerns. I now know that my concerns mainly were a fear of their influence. When my self-deluded mask of “concern” fell, I saw the fear for what it was. We all have been taught that if we care, we pray. I truly believe in the power of prayer; however, the Lord is sifting the wheat from the tares in my prayer life as well as yours.
When we die to old habits (our own ways), even to generational sin, the Pattern Son has shown us the way prior to His death in the Garden of Gethsemane. As Messiah Yeshua wrestled with going to the Cross, “He knelt down and prayed, saying, ‘Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done’” (Luke 22:41b-42). When we join “not My will, but Yours, be done” with “Your will [Heavenly Father] be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matt. 6:10), we arrive at the intersection where His Kingdom comes.
A friend of mine and I saw that the prayers said out of fear held a generational stronghold of fear in place. My friend literally saw the word “FEAR” written out in big block letters. Once we repented for acting, speaking, praying out of fear, she saw the letters of FEAR slowly dissolve. We were led to include repentance for generational fear, even back to the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden as well as fear of the Destroyer in all dimensions. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7).
The seed of Yeshua’s heart-cry that He planted in the Garden of Gethsemane is key to overcoming the ungodly influence of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil that came from the Fall in the Garden of Eden. It was love that caused Yeshua to willingly lay down His life on the Cross. It was love that caused our Heavenly Father to give His only begotten Son for the world (John 3:16).
Let us all be made perfect in love. May you and I truly love those closest to us by solely seeking the Father’s perfect will for them through simply lifting them up to Him. “Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love Him because He first loved us” (1 John 4:17-19).
“For this reason we … ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins” (Colossians 1:9-14).
